A Family Farm Wedding at Lilac Ridge Farm in Brattleboro, Vermont
Bella and Grant’s wedding at Lilac Ridge Farm in Brattleboro, Vermont, took place on a family farm that has been in Bella’s family for generations. They had already taken on the care of the farm and land together before they married. At Bella’s mother's house up the hill, the girls drank champagne while the boys drank homemade sun tea before gathering for family photos at Bella's grandmother's house. Also just a stone's throw away from the main farmhouse Bella and Grant now live, and that hit my heartstrings—the way families generations before us used to remain physically close.
After the ceremony, family and friends walked an enchanting mile through the woods to the rolling fields of the reception at Bella’s mother’s house—a walk, they told me, they take every day with their dog. The afternoon stayed beautifully overcast, making the atmosphere dreamlike, and by evening a light rain began to fall. Dinner was a true potluck, with everyone contributing something to the table.
It was obvious how much Bella and Grant loved each other, and how much they loved their families and community. Dare I say, I almost felt jealous of their collective. After dinner, everyone square danced into the night, with Grant joining the band for a couple of sets on fiddle and banjo—the gifts of this day were literally endless. This is exactly the kind of wedding I dream about photographing.
